Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist - Area Clinical Manager is responsible for managing and directing RT Staff at multi-site and/or designated area.  Oversees clinical programs to achieve quality patient outcomes as determined by the corporate clinical director.  Works closely with local sales team to promote clinical programs; provides in-services for RT services and equipment.   Participates in routine meetings with clinical, sales, and ops teams to achieve branch and/or area financial objectives.     
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 
  • Oversees clinical programs and meets established clinical outcomes as determined.
  • Assists in developing and implementing respiratory policy and procedures in accordance local state respiratory laws and regulations.
  • Attends Quarterly JOC meetings with the Health Plans. Act as a Clinical Liaison for the Health Plans and our partner hospitals.
  • Conduct joint sales call visits to Preferred Homecare’s referral sources with the Sales Team.
  • Act as the ventilator program coordinator for the state of Arizona to include DDD and other Health Plans.
  • Assist the Director of Logistics and Clinical Operations with the clinical oversight of  assigned locations.
  • Manages RT labor and maintains established productivity standards for RT staff.
  • Participates in new product evaluation for respiratory equipment and/or services
  • Meets the Area P &L financial objectives for RT labor and operational expenses
  • Maintains monthly reports on RT department activities and reviews with General Manager.
  • Works directly with RCC to coordinate clinical follow up and proper contact frequency.
  • Coordinates and participates in field supervisory visits for staff. Verifies staff competencies
  • Reviews staff documentation for accuracy and completion.
  • Perform On-call duties as required.
Technical and Clinical Job Responsibilities:
  • Monitors the status of pending referrals and provides guidance to intake.
  • Instructs patients and/or caregivers in the operation, use and application, safety precautions and maintenance of prescribed equipment and supplies.
  • Assesses the patient’s residence to ensure the environment of care is conducive to safe delivery of services and/or care and makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Performs respiratory care procedures and applies clinical and prognostic principles to evaluate the patient’s level of function in activities of daily living.
  • Observes, records, and reports to the physician and health care team the patient’s reaction to treatment and any changes in the patient’s condition.
  • Prepares and maintains the clinical record of each patient assigned; includes the timely completion of all required documentation.
  • Consults with physicians and outside agencies regarding patient treatment, medical condition, and home environment to ensure continuity of care and services.
  • Inspects and tests equipment prior to patient set-up to ensure proper operating condition.
  • Prepares clinical notes and medical update/summary notes and submits within time frame defined in company policy.

Graduate of an AMA approved respiratory program is required.  Bachelor’s degree preferred. Credentials with the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred, Certified Respiratory Technician (CRT) accepted.  Must have a current state professional license. A minimum of 10 years experience in respiratory care and 5 years of home care is required.  A minimum of 3-year previous supervisory experience is preferred.  Current CPR Certification and attainment of company direct patient care health requirements is required before interacting with patients.  Experience with disease management and proven clinical outcomes desired.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software;
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manages team of employees within the team. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
